Hive Art

Design a map formation and generate coordinates for each HQ position. Two ways to build your art: draw it directly on a hex canvas, or upload an image and let the tool convert it. Either way, the output is the same — a list of exact map coordinates ready to distribute to operatives.

How To Use It

Draw Mode

  1. Adjust the grid size to give yourself enough space (20×15 is a good default; go larger for detailed designs).
  2. Paint hexes by clicking or dragging on the canvas. Each filled hex is one HQ position. Use the brush toggle to paint one hex at a time (precision) or 7 hexes at once (fast fill in HQ-shaped clusters).
  3. Erase mistakes by switching to Erase mode and clicking/dragging over the hexes you want to remove.
  4. Watch the live count. Match it to your number of volunteers before generating.
  5. Configure output — set the anchor coordinate to your target city center, keep spacing at 3.
  6. Generate the coordinate list, copy it into Comms, distribute to operatives.

Upload Mode

  1. Upload any image — PNG, JPG, or GIF. Bold shapes work best.
  2. Adjust threshold and invert until the pattern looks right (preview updates live).
  3. Fine-tune in Draw mode if needed — switching tabs preserves your mask. Fix specific hexes by hand after uploading.
  4. Configure output and generate, same as Draw mode.

Tips For Better Formations Advice

  • Draw mode wins for text. Block letters are much easier to hand-draw hex-by-hex than to upload.
  • Upload mode wins for logos. Complex shapes are faster to upload than to paint.
  • Mix the two. Upload an image as a starting point, then switch to Draw mode to fine-tune the exact hexes.
  • Live count = required volunteers. If you have 100 people signed up, aim for a design with 100 filled hexes. Adjust by erasing extras or filling gaps.
  • Test small before committing. A 20-operative test formation is faster to coordinate and proves the concept before you attempt 100+.
  • Coordinate a move window. Ask all participants to relocate within a shared 24-48 hour period so the art appears at once.
